Look Twice, Save a Life (Every Month!)
May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month, but you can save lives EVERY DAY just by being a safe driver. Sharing the road with others is one of the most challenging aspects of driving. People using motorcycles, mopeds, and other motorized two-wheeled vehicles are often overlooked which makes it extremely dangerous. Each year, massive campaigns are done to help draw attention to these vulnerable road users. While motorcyclists are seen wearing helmets, they have very little that will actually protect them in the event of a crash. So always remember to drive cautiously around them.
Motorcycles are small and fast, which means that they’re easy to miss. Although they’re smaller vehicles, they belong on the road and it’s your responsibility to help keep them safe.
Tips to Share the Road
- Maintain a safe following distance — motorcycles stop faster than an ordinary car does
- Look left, right, then left again before making a turn
- Always use your signals, don’t make other drivers guess what you’ll be doing on the road
- Be forgiving of other drivers, you never know what they’re going through in their lives
